Frequently Asked Questions

Who is covered by the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA)?

DVA provides veterans with access to fully funded treatment of all mental health conditions.

This means you do not have to pay for your mental health treatment for as long as it is needed. You do not need to prove that your ADF service caused these conditions. DVA will cover these costs.

Who is eligible for a White Card or a Gold Card?

Current and former full-time members of the ADF can receive fully funded treatment of all mental health conditions. This includes reservists who have at least one day of Continuous Full-Time Service.

To get fully funded treatment, you need to have a Veteran White Card or a Veteran Gold Card that covers mental health.

Do DVA clients need an appointment with their GP to obtain a referral?

Yes. Both White Card and Gold Card clients need to obtain a referral from their GP at either an appointment made for this specific purpose or as part of any of their regular appointments.

Do I need to be a Veteran to make a booking?

No. Whilst DVA Psychology has a focus on ADF Veterans, we also accept private non-Veteran clients. Our psychologists have a broad range of experience and are able to support your mental health with comprehensive, evidence based psychological treatments.
